Credit Card Bonus Rewards for July 2022

Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex: Earn a 5% cash back from Chase on up to $1,500 in combined purchases at Gas Stations, Car Rental Agencies (direct from the car rental companies), Movie Theaters and on Select Live Entertainment from July 1st to September 30, 2022. Live entertainment includes major sporting events, zoos and aquariums, concerts, theatrical productions, museums, tourist attractions and exhibits, amusement parks, circuses, carnivals, bands, and entertainers (including ticket agencies).

2. Car rental does not include purchase through travel agencies, or discount sites, vacation clubs, tour operations, or part of a package.

3. Movie theater does not include dining, snacks, beverages, or merchandise.

Maximizer Tips:

1. You could use PayPal for shopping at many retailers and earn 5% on top of the PayPal cash when you use Discover connected to PayPal. For e.g., as of this writing, you can earn an additional 3% at Home Depot, an additional 1% at Walmart, and more.

3. Given the gas prices where they are now, it might be worth downloading and sign-up for individual gas brand apps. We like the BP app and love the mobile unlocking of the pump feature. It usually gives 5c off per gallon right at the pump. Make sure you have a Chase Freedom card in the default payments position for this month.

Watch Out!!

1. Gas purchases at Costco, Sams, and BJs would not qualify for Chase Freedom 5%. If you have Costco Visa or Sams club credit card, use those at the gas stations at these clubs.
2. Caution for TURO: It is not clear but very likely that Turo rentals do not qualify for 5%. Also, Rental vehicles from TURO are NOT covered by most auto insurance companies and most major credit card CDW programs. As a matter of fact, we have not found any auto insurance company or card issuer that covers TURO rentals. There are insurance options from TURO through a major auto insurance company, but it is not clear whether the renting party is fully protected as he or she would have with their own auto insurance. Make sure you fully understand before renting from TURO.
3. You cannot “double-dip” with 5% at restaurants and PayPal. If you use PayPal at restaurants with Discover, you will only get 5%.
